Located in a privileged environment, between two salty lagoons that make up the Natural Park of Lagunas de La Mata and Torrevieja, we find a Mediterranean city of sun, beaches, parks and nature, where the quality of life is a predominant factor. Its tourist offer, clearly influenced by the sea and its beaches, is full of leisure, cultural and sport alternatives, all of them guaranteed by ideal climatic conditions: an average annual temperature of 18 degrees Celsius and more than 320 days of sunshine per year , the perfect setting for the enjoyment of leisure time. Coinciding with the summer season, when the city concentrates its greatest number of tourists, it increases even more its ludic offer, with a multitude of concerts, shows, galas, performances, musicals and exhibitions. However, Torrevieja offers a wide range of possibilities throughout the year, with one of the most important cultural and leisure programs in our area.
One of the main attractions of the city is its urban center, which offers tourists a large number of options. Its trade, traditional and modern at the same time, is the ideal place to make the most authentic shopping, with numerous pedestrian streets that make up an open shopping center. Also, there is a very diverse restaurant offer, with restaurants and bars that cover all the gastronomic needs of the visitor, from the most typical tapas to the most elaborate dishes.
On the other hand, Torrevieja invites the enjoyment of leisure time in full contact with the sea. And it is that the city has an impressive nautical-sports offer, having a total of three sports docks in its port that offer different activities: nautical charters, fishing trips, boat trips, participation in regattas, nautical training courses, etc. And most importantly, at any time of the year you can enjoy the sports practice in full contact with the warm Mediterranean Sea: contrary to what it might seem, winter is the best time for it, as the winds of land that prevail they facilitate the improvement of maritime conditions.
Do you dream of fishing pelagic in the Mediterranean? With haggling in an official competition? In obtaining the necessary qualification to sail in that boat you so much want to buy ?, or perhaps, in discovering the excellent sea beds of the Torrevieja coast ? When we enter Cartagena, we undergo an experience that those who came before us have repeated for more than 3000 years. Archaeology is of paramount importance in Cartagena and the present itinerary makes it possible for us to conjure up the picture of the city in ancient times. To start the discovery of the city we must visit the Cartagena History Interpretive Centre and the Cartagena Medieval, placed on the highest of the five hills which made up the ancient city limits, to continue visiting the more monumental archaeological site, The Roman Theatre, and the uncovered city in the district of the Roman Forum, with the building for religious banquets and the baths. Cartagena's raison d'être is the impressive harbour, so the journey through history must be made on the catamaran towards the Cartagena Defence Architecture Interpretive Centre at Fuerte de Navidad (Christmas Fort), which, placed on one of the sides of the port entrance, provides the city with its impregnable condition. If we focus on its historic monuments overlooking the sea, the City Hall Palace represents the land reclaimed from the sea.
If, what you are looking for is to enjoy the beach, congratulations! We can offer two seas: Mar Menor (a salt water lagoon) and the Mediterranean. In this seaside environment it is a must to taste "caldero", a typical fish-based rice speciality.
In Cartgena's festival calendar, three dates stand out in particular: Carnival, Easter and Cartaginians and Romans. During Easter, all of Cartagena takes to the streets. The city's unique take on the procession offers up some impresive images of sculptures, flower and the strictly lined up of its penitents. Cartaginians and Romans relive, during the second fortnight in September, with festive spirit the historical events that marked the Second Punic War.
